Curriculum

The UTRGV Family Medicine- MMC Residency Program is a three-year educational experience that is designed to allow each resident to rotate through a number of specialty areas.

First Year Residents:

First Year Residents - Curriculum
Residents will spend two half-days per week in clinic. 4-6 patients are assigned to his/her care daily.
Inpatient Family Medicine (IFM) 2 Months
Obstetrics/Newborn (OB/NB) 2 Months
Internal Medicine (IM) 2 Months
Night Float (NF) 2 Months
Ambulatory Pediatrics 1 Month
Veterans Affairs (VA) 1 Month
Gynecology 1 Month
Integrated Behavioral Health 1 Month

Second Year Residents:

Second Year Residents - Curriculum
Residents will spend three to four half-days per week in clinic. 6-8 patients are assigned to his/her care daily.
Inpatient Family Medicine (IFM) 2 Months
Night Float (NF) 1 Month
Emergency Medicine 1 Month
Cardiology 1 Month
Intensive Care (ICU) 1 Month
Surgery 1 Month
Pediatric Emergency Room 1 Month
Ambulatory Pediatrics 1 Month
Orthopedics 1 Month
Neurology 1 Month
Veterans Affairs (VA) 1 Month

Third Year Residents:

Third Year Residents - Curriculum
Residents will spend four half-days per week in clinic. 8-10 patients are assigned to his/her care daily.
Inpatient Family Medicine (IFM) 2 Months
Night Float (NF) 1 Month
Practice Management 1 Month
Ophthalmology/Urology 1 Month
Emergency Medicine (ER) 1 Month
Dermatology 1 Month
Sports Medicine 1 Month
Pediatric In-Patient (PED IFM) 1 Month
Elective 3 Months
