Welcome

On behalf of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, we welcome you to our Graduate Medical Education (GME) Programs.

Our GME programs are a vital part of our school’s mission. Our mission is to transform the health of the Rio Grande Valley and beyond by providing advanced academic medicine through these five pillars:

  • Innovative Education
  • Life-Changing Research and Discoveries
  • High Quality Patient-Centered Care
  • Serving our Community
  • Sustainability and a Culture of Entrepreneurship

UTRGV has been the longest standing accredited Sponsoring Institution for GME programs in the Rio Grande Valley. UTRGV School of Medicine has been accredited as a Sponsoring Institution for GME programs continuously by the ACGME since 2014.

We are proud to be the only medical school sponsoring residency programs in the Rio Grande Valley. Our programs offer the unique opportunity for resident physicians to give back to our community in need and emerge as teachers of the next generation of physicians.

We are grateful to our patients, medical students, current and past residents and fellows, faculty, staff, and community for trusting us and allowing us this great opportunity to train residents. We are shaping the future of academic medicine here at UTRGV SOM.

We encourage you to search our site to find an outstanding training program that meets your interests and educational needs.

Chelsea Chang, MD, FACP
Associate Dean of GME
Designated Institutional Official
