Closure of the Office for Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity
The UTRGV School of Medicine is required to comply with Texas Senate Bill 17 (SB17) regarding diversity, equity and inclusion programs at public universities, therefore, staff members previously supporting the Office for Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity have been reassigned or the positions have been eliminated, and this office is closed. The school transitioned SB17 compliant programs previously offered by the Office for Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity to other areas of the school and discontinued programs that are not compliant.
SB17 takes effect on Jan. 1, 2024, and our school is working closely with UTRGV to ensure compliance with the new law.
The University of Texas System has provided FAQs to guide our institutions with implementing the provisions of SB17.
