Dr. Huma Shahzad is an Assistant Professor of Medical Education at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, School of Medicine. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Molecular Physiology from the University of Malaya, demonstrating a strong foundation in basic science research. Her laboratory research focuses on understanding the hormonal mechanisms governing metabolic processes, with an emphasis on how these hormones regulate blood pressure, cardiovascular, reproductive, and overall health in women. She has mentored and supervised several student research projects at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels.
Dr. Shahzad has extensive experience in both teaching and research contributing significantly to the advancement of knowledge in her field through numerous publications and innovative teaching methods. She also actively participated in the curriculum and assessment committees. In her previous role, she has served as a new curriculum lead, where her responsibilities included coordinating the development of course content details, reporting the progress per the timeline, and assisting in monitoring quality and standards of curriculum implementation. Her pursuit of professional excellence in teaching 21st-century learners and educational leadership led her to pursue a master’s degree in health profession education (MHPE) from IMU University, Malaysia. In medical education research, she currently explores the challenges and experiences of preclinical medical students during the remedial intervention process.
