Lodging

Book your discounted hotel room now in the STACP meeting block at the location of the conference. There are also multi-room suites, great for families, available at the hotel, outside of the block rate.

There are two ways to book:

  1. Online: UTRGV - SOM Internal Medicine will take you to the dates and rates for your event. If you access the website first, you can use code "SOM."
  2. By Phone: (956) 761-6551 ask for reservations and mention your group "STACP" to get the special rate. Their schedule is Monday 9AM-4:30PM, Tuesday to Friday from 9AM-9PM and Saturday 12:30PM-9PM. Sunday in-house reservations is closed.

12:00 – 1:00p Networking Lunch - Our chief residents have assigned you a table number on your name tag. This is a great opportunity for medical students and faculty to mingle and for residents from different programs to mingle.
1:00 – 2:00p Keynote Speaker—Dr. Carlos Cardenas
Dr. Cardenas has more than 25 years of experience in medicine and health care management. He was raised in McAllen Texas, graduated from UTMB medical school and IM residency and GI fellowship from Scott & White. He helped found Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR), one of the largest physician- owned facilities in the US and now a teaching hospital for UTRGV. Among many other roles, Dr. Cardenas served as TMA president 2017-2018.

Submission Categories

Each residency program selects a maximum of twelve (12) abstracts in the following three categories:

  1. Podium/Oral Competition:
    1. Clinical Vignette: One (1) abstract per residency program.
    2. Clinical or Basic Science Research: One (1) abstract per residency program.
    3. Patient Safety/Quality Improvement: One (1) abstract per residency program.
  2. Poster Competition:
    1. Clinical Vignette: Three (3) abstracts per residency program.
    2. Clinical or Basic Science Research: Three (3) abstracts per residency program.
    3. Patient Safety/QI: Three (3) abstracts per residency program.

Submission Deadlines

Abstract selection process is up to the discretion of each residency program.
Each program director will submit all selected abstracts (maximum of 12 per program) by 5:00 PM Monday, March 16th, 2020 to chelsea.chang@utrgv.edu

Submission Format

  • Abstracts must be submitted using the abstract submission form, a fillable word document.
  • Each Word file must be labeled as: resident’s last name, type of presentation, residency program, title.
    Examples: Smith Research Podium SAUSHEC Pruritis; Jones CV Poster UT Austin Needle in Throat
  • All residents submitting abstracts must be resident members of ACP and must have a faculty sponsor.
  • 400 word limit for the abstract. The word limit does not include title, authors, and institutions.
  • Abstracts previously presented at a local, regional, or national ACP meeting are not eligible.
  • Abstracts must include: A title, all words bolded and in upper case; The author’s names and their ACP membership in parenthesis; and The institutional affiliation
    Example: TREATMENT OF THEOPHYLLINE TOXICITY - Beverly B. Bright, MD (ACP Resident), Charles S. Murphy, Jr., MD (ACP Member), and Frank R. Burns, DO, FACP, UTHSCSA, San Antonio, Texas.
  • For tips please review the Guide to Preparing for the Abstract Competition.
  • Incomplete abstract submission forms, any modification to the abstract submission form, and/or failure to abide by any other submission rule will be grounds for disqualification.

Submission Categories

  1. Clinical Vignette (CV) PosterA clinical vignette is a report of one or more cases that illustrates a new disease entity, or a prominent or unusual clinical feature of an established disease.
  2. Clinical or Basic Science Research Poster
  3. On Becoming a DoctorDelve into the humanities by submitting a picture of an original piece of art that you would display, a completed short personal essay (under 1000 words) or poem. They can be related to being a medical student, a patient, or other significant experience. For this submission category, you submit your final piece by the abstract submission deadline.


Submission Deadlines

Each medical student submits their abstract by 5:00 PM Monday, March 9th, 2020 by email to Chelsea.Chang@utrgv.edu.

Each medical student will be notified via e-mail of abstract acceptance and if your abstract was not accepted by Monday, March 16th, 2020. (Registration is by Monday, March 30th)
