Welcome To The Division of Cancer & Immunology

Welcome to the Division of Cancer & Immunology, we appreciate your interest. This division has a vibrant team of investigators dynamically involved in the training of future health care professionals in the field of Cancer Immunology. This field has always been the focal point of basic and translational research to identify cures and treatments for human diseases. It has witnessed tremendous success in scientific discoveries that have revolutionized the area of cancer medicine. Every day, new scientific discoveries are emerging in this field, allowing us to develop newer diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for human diseases, including cancer.

Cancer immunotherapy is a rapidly evolving area as several cancer vaccines and targeted therapies are in different phases of clinical trials. This information represents new, exciting, rapidly evolving opportunities in education, research, and clinical services. New discoveries in basic science, information technologies, and clinical sciences are revolutionizing health care delivery at cost-effective rates across the globe. The Global pandemic of COVID-19 has again put forward the pressing need of this area in medical science.

The Division of Cancer & Immunology at the UTRGV School of Medicine is harnessing basic knowledge of microbiology and immunology to develop newer diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for chronic human diseases. Additionally, we are committed to providing an outstanding education and training experience for health professionals in the disciplines of microbiology and immunology. We will provide a unique platform for innovation, creativity, and excellence in basic, translational, and applied research. Our initiatives will help promote the local workforce in the Rio Grande Valley region dedicated to biomedical research and health care to transform the lives of patients around the area.

Our vision is to become one of the premier nationally and internationally recognized divisions for excellence in biomedical education and research, while maintaining integrity in teaching and learning, engaging in responsible conduct of academic and scientific research, ensuring all students, residents, fellows, and faculty contribute towards our mission, partnering with industry, academia, and government agencies on the development of vaccines, biologics, biosimilars, and immunotherapies, and developing a special place in the university while promoting community outreach and engagement.
