Transfer Student Scholarships

At The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, we understand how difficult it can be to finance your college education. Scholarships are an excellent way to support your academic and professional goals. Transfer students may be eligible to apply for one of the scholarships below.

 

Merit-Based Scholarships

Merit-based scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and upon fund availability. Submission of a scholarship application is NOT required. Eligible students will ONLY be considered for one transfer scholarship. To be considered, students must be admitted to UTRGV by the Admissions fall/spring priority application deadlines.

 

Transfer Scholars Scholarship

The scholarship is a 2-year renewable scholarship valued up to $6,000 ($1500 per fall/spring semester) (3.5-4.0 Transfer GPA) up to $4,000 ($1,000 per fall/spring semester) (3.0-3.49 Transfer GPA). 

Eligibility Requirements: Transfer in with a 3.0 GPA

Renewable Requirements:

  1. Enroll each fall and spring semester in a minimum of 6 hours leading to the completion of a baccalaureate degree.
  2. Maintain a 3.0 Cumulative Institutional Grade Point Average (GPA). GPA is based on all grades received in college-level courses, including those taken while in high school.
  3. Renewable for 4 long semesters or until undergraduate graduation whichever comes first. The scholarship terminates upon transfer to another university or upon non-enrollment at UTRGV for any fall or spring semester.
Appeals Process:
Scholarship recipients not meeting requirements 1 or 2 may submit a scholarship appeal @ www.utrgv.edu/appeals to be considered for the award. The scholarship appeal must be submitted by the first tuition due date of the corresponding semester.

 

PAC Presidential Scholarships

The scholarship is a 2-year renewable scholarship valued at up to $37,400 (2 year total). (includes tuition and mandatory fees for fall, spring, and summer semesters and an annual room and board scholarship fall and spring.)

Eligibility Requirements: Transfer in from Palo Alto College, Transfer in with 30 hours or more, Transfer in with a 3.25 GPA

Renewable Requirements:

  1. Enroll each fall and spring semester in a minimum of 12 hours leading to the completion of a baccalaureate degree.
  2. Maintain a 3.0 Cumulative Institutional Grade Point Average (GPA). GPA is based on all grades received in college-level courses, including those taken while in high school.
  3. Renewable for 4 long semesters or until undergraduate graduation whichever comes first. The scholarship terminates upon transfer to another university or upon non-enrollment at UTRGV for any fall or spring semester.

Scholarship recipients not meeting requirements 1 or 2 may submit a scholarship appeal @ www.utrgv.edu/appeals to be considered for the award. The scholarship appeal must be submitted by the first tuition due date of the corresponding semester.

 

Scholarship Application Required

The following scholarships require a scholarship application to be submitted online at www.utrgv.edu/applyscholarships. Eligible students will ONLY be considered for one transfer scholarship. To be considered, students must be admitted to UTRGV by the Admissions fall/spring priority application deadlines.

 

Phi Theta Kappa Alumni Scholarship

The PTK scholarship is a 2-year renewable scholarship valued at up to $3,000 ($750 for fall/spring semester).

Eligibility Requirements: Be an active participant in the PTK organization at a community college.

Renewable Requirements:

  1. Enroll each fall and spring semester in a minimum of 12 hours leading to the completion of a baccalaureate degree.
  2. Maintain a 3.0 Cumulative Institutional Grade Point Average (GPA). GPA is based on all grades received in college-level courses, including those taken while in high school.
  3. Renewable for 4 long semesters or until undergraduate graduation whichever comes first. The scholarship terminates upon transfer to another university or upon non-enrollment at UTRGV for any fall or spring semester.

Scholarship recipients not meeting requirements 1 or 2 may submit a scholarship appeal @ www.utrgv.edu/appeals to be considered for the award. The scholarship appeal must be submitted by the first tuition due date of the corresponding semester.

 

Valley Scholars Transfer Scholarship

The scholarship is a 2-year renewable scholarship valued at up to $4,000 ($1,000 for the fall/spring semester).

Eligibility Requirements: Be an active participant in the Valley Scholars organization at South Texas College.

Renewable Requirements:

  1. Enroll each fall and spring semester in a minimum of 12 hours leading to the completion of a baccalaureate degree.
  2. Maintain a 3.0 Cumulative Institutional Grade Point Average (GPA). GPA is based on all grades received in college-level courses, including those taken while in high school.
  3. Renewable for 4 long semesters or until undergraduate graduation whichever comes first. The scholarship terminates upon transfer to another university or upon non-enrollment at UTRGV for any fall or spring semester.

Appeals Process:
Scholarship recipients not meeting requirements 1 or 2 may submit a scholarship appeal @ www.utrgv.edu/appeals to be considered for the award. The scholarship appeal must be submitted by the first tuition due date of the corresponding semester.

 

Transfer-In Scholarship

The Transfer-In scholarship is a 2-year renewable scholarship valued up to $16,000 (2 year total). (includes housing scholarship component). The amount would be adjusted based on other gift aid.

Eligibility Requirements: Be a Transfer student from a community college outside the Rio Grande Valley and work towards a first undergraduate degree. 

Renewable Requirements:

  1. Enroll each fall and spring semester in a minimum of 12 hours leading to the completion of a baccalaureate degree.
  2. Maintain a 3.0 Cumulative Institutional Grade Point Average (GPA). GPA is based on all grades received in college-level courses, including those taken while in high school.
  3. Renewable for 4 long semesters or until undergraduate graduation whichever comes first. The scholarship terminates upon transfer to another university or upon non-enrollment at UTRGV for any fall or spring semester.

Scholarship recipients not meeting requirements 1 or 2 may submit a scholarship appeal @ www.utrgv.edu/appeals to be considered for the award. The scholarship appeal must be submitted by the first tuition due date of the corresponding semester.

 

Additional Opportunities Available

UTRGV Scholarship Applications

UTRGV Endowed and Departmental Scholarships are usually one-time scholarships that require students to submit a scholarship application online or to the corresponding department that is offering the scholarship.

Outside Scholarships

UTRGV is committed to providing as many scholarship opportunities as possible for students. As organizations send us information pertaining to their scholarship opportunities, we make them available for your review and to take advantage of those opportunities.


Student Emergency Fund

Provide limited, last resort, financial assistance to currently enrolled students who are experiencing a sudden emergency, accident, or an unforeseen event.

UTRGV Employee Tuition Assistance Program

Current UTRGV full-time employees can take advantage of this program to assist with tuition assistance for up to nine credit hours per academic fiscal year.
