New Student Scholarships

Scholarships are an excellent way to help support your undergraduate or graduate education at The University of Rio Grande Valley. They are a form of financial assistance that does not require repayment or employment and are awarded based on merit, need, or a combination of the two. Scholarships are highly competitive and have specific eligibility criteria such as GPA, type of major, entrance exam scores, etc. They are available from federal, state, institutional and private sources such as corporations, foundations and organizations. Some Scholarships have their own separate application and deadlines, usually reflecting the values and purpose of the donor or program.

Merit Based Scholarships

Merit-based scholarships (UTRGV Scholars Program, MSA Scholarship, UTRGV Housing Scholarship, Gateway Scholarship, and Top 10% Scholarship) are awarded on a competitive basis and do NOT require the submission of a scholarship application. To be considered, students must be admitted to UTRGV by December 1st.

UTRGV Luminary Scholars

The UTRGV Luminary Scholarship program offers the brightest undergraduate students from all disciplines a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in an unparalleled learning environment. By sharing unique skills and perspectives with the greater RGV community, each Luminary Scholar can enhance the experience of a fellow student or community member at any point along the academic journey.

VAMOS/UTRGV Endowed Scholarship Program

The UTRGV Foundation and the Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships (VAMOS), have partnered to create the VAMOS/UTRGV Endowed Scholarship Program. To be considered, students must be admitted to UTRGV and have applied for the scholarship by February 15th.

UTRGV Scholarship Applications

UTRGV Endowed and Departmental Scholarships are usually one-time scholarships which require students to submit a scholarship application online or to the corresponding department that is offering the scholarship.

Scholarship Competitive Waiver

Non-residents of Texas, including citizens of another country who receive a competitive scholarship, may be eligible to pay the Resident Tuition and Mandatory Fee Rate.

Outside Scholarships

UTRGV is committed to providing as many scholarship opportunities as possible for students. As organizations send us information pertaining to their scholarship opportunities, we make them available for your review and to take advantage of those opportunities.
