RCR Face-to-Face Workshops
The purpose of the RCR workshops is to help students better understand the importance of responsible conduct, learn about prosper research and creative practices, and connect to important regulatory and information offices across the UTRGV community. Each topic, as described below, is paralleled by a CITI training so researchers can pair an online module with a face-to-face discussion.
The Conflict of Interest workshop provides an overview of UTRGV's conflict of interest policy, why it matters, and how it applies to researchers, including students.

The Care and Use of Animals in Research workshop provides an overview of UTRGV's animal care policies and discusses the ethical considerations and regulatory framework in research with animal subjects.

The Mentor/Mentee Responsibilities and Relationships workshop discusses the mentor/mentee relationship, understanding mutual responsibilities, maintaining a productive and supportive resarch environment, providing proper supervision and review, and recognizing that the goal of the mentor/mentee relationship is to prepare mentees for the transition to independent researchers.

The Collaborative Research, Including Collaborations with Industry workshop covers establishing and maintaining successful research collaborations, having a clear understanding of roles and relationships, communication strategies, effective management and recognizing differences in resarch fields.

The Research Misconduct and Policies for Handling Misconduct explores the basic principles of ethical research and the primary forms of research misconduct: plagiarism, falsification, and fabrication.

The Responsible Authorship and Publication workshop provides an introduction into academic authorship and publication practices, including author responsibilities and guidelines for authorship credit.

The Human Subjects Research workshop provides an overview of the laws and regulations that must be adhered to when using human subjects in research and the ethical issues associated with their use. The Institutional Review Board for Protection of Human Subjects in Research (IRB) and the IRB application process will be reviewed.
