Research Compliance & Export Controls

Research Compliance and Export Controls consists of three sub-units: Research Compliance, Research Integrity & Export Controls, and Laboratory Animal Support.

This key unit within the department of Research, Innovation, and Technology Commercialization is responsible for ensuring research integrity and compliance with federal, state and UTRGV policies and procedures.

We offer educational programs, guides faculty and staff, facilitates and manages the approval process for research related protocols for compliance.

Responsible Conduct of Research

  • Assistance with the tracking requirements of Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) courses for grant funded projects and with training in the following nine areas: Research Misconduct; Data Acquisition; Management; Sharing and Ownership;  Publication Practices and Responsible Authorship; Peer Review; Mentor and Trainee Responsibilities; Conflicts of Interest and Commitment; Collaborative Research.

Research Integrity and Export Controls 

Research Integrity

  • Guidance on matters involving plagiarism, falsification and fabrication of data. 
  • Development and monitoring of Conflicts of Interest Management Plans.

Export Controls

  • License Determinations.
  • Guidance on matters involving the export of data/technologies to foreign countries and the exposure and/or release of such data/technologies to foreign individuals in the U.S. (deemed exports).
  • Development of Technology Control Plans.

Laboratory Animal Support

  • Support researchers with their research animal husbandry needs.
  • Provide training on proper animal handling, sample collection and surgical techniques.
  • Guidance on protocol development for the use of animals in research.
