Know Us

The Department of Research, Innovation, and Technology Commercialization at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) promotes, encourages, and provides assistance for research and scholarship and creative activities in all disciplines by the university faculty, staff, and students, contributing to our Strategic Plan's Core Priority of Research Impacting the Rio Grande Valley & Beyond.

The services provided by our offices cover guidance on all research administration including funding opportunities, proposal development, research compliance, and post award administration. We also facilitate the transfer of discoveries, creative works, inventions, and processes resulting from research and scholarly activities to the private sector to enhance the quality of life for society.

Mission: To foster and support the creative activity; research and professional training; and intellectual property development of the UTRGV faculty, students, and staff.

Three key units within the Research, Innovation and Technology Commercialization Department include: (i) Research Administration; (ii) Research Compliance and Export Control; and (iii) Technology Commercialization.

All three units report to our Associate Vice President for Research Enhancement, Dr. Karen Martirosyan, who also leads all faculty development efforts.
