Welcome to Research Compliance & Export Control
This key unit within the Division of Research ensures that all research activities conducted at the university comply with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies.
This unit plays a crucial role in upholding the integrity, ethics, and legal standards of research conducted by faculty, staff, and students.
What We Do
Research Compliance and Export Control ensure adherence to research and export control regulations. This includes oversight of human subject’s research, animal welfare, biosafety, and compliance with export control laws.
It consists of five sub-units: Contracts and Industry Agreements, Research Compliance, Research Integrity and Export Compliance, Laboratory Animal Resources, and Office of Technology and Commercialization.
Services provided include managing contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting research integrity, overseeing export controls, managing laboratory animal resources, and facilitating technology commercialization.
Research Compliance ensures adherence to regulations and institutional policies in research activities. Key committees overseen include the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for human subjects’ protection, the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) for biohazardous materials safety, and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) for the ethical treatment of animals. Post-monitoring approval involves audits to ensure compliance and approval of research protocols.
These committees uphold ethical standards, safeguard participant rights, ensure researcher safety, and promote responsible research conduct, contributing to the integrity and quality of research at the institution.
Learn More about Research ComplianceResearch Integrity & Export Compliance provides comprehensive guidance on issues related to academic integrity, including plagiarism, falsification, and data fabrication. Additionally, it oversees the development and oversight of Conflicts of Interest Management Plans, ensuring compliance and ethical conduct. The unit also handles license determinations and offers guidance on matters concerning the export of data or technologies to foreign countries, as well as the exposure of such data or technologies to foreign individuals in the U.S., also known as deemed exports. Furthermore, it facilitates the development of Technology Control Plans to regulate and manage the dissemination of sensitive technologies effectively.
The Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) supports faculty, staff, and students in accelerating the transition of intellectual property (IP) from the University to commercial ventures. It facilitates industrial research collaborations, manages IP, develops proof-of-concept projects, fosters new venture incubation, and provides entrepreneurship training.
