Message from the Office of Institutional Equity & Diversity

March 19, 2021

“The recent surge in violence against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders is the latest tragedy in our collective battle against racism and hate. On behalf of our entire university leadership, we want to reassure all members of our campus community who feel frightened or marginalized that we see you and we hear you. Together, we can ensure that the University remains a safe and inclusive place for all people to learn and work for years to come.“

President Guy Bailey

Dear UTRGV Family,

In the wake of the tragic events that took place this week in Atlanta, Georgia, the Office of Institutional Equity & Diversity (OIED) would like to remind our campus of UTRGV's commitment to fostering and preserving a diverse and inclusive environment, free of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

If you are — at any point — a victim of racism, sexual misconduct, or other forms of abuse and injustice, please immediately notify your faculty and/or supervisors about your situation or inform directly the OIED. Likewise, if you see classmates or colleagues being targets of racist or discriminatory behavior, speak up on their behalf and report it.

As a reminder, the University has dedicated resources available to all members of our campus community in need of confidential support.
