Message from the President

June 11, 2020

Dear Colleagues:

As an update to my May 19 message regarding leadership changes in Academic Affairs and P-16 Integration, I am pleased to announce today that Dr. Janna Arney has agreed to serve as our Interim Provost. Dr. Arney currently serves as Deputy President and will retain that title and role during this transition period.

As you will recall, in April 2018 we reorganized Academic Affairs into three separate divisions to address a number of critical challenges facing UTRGV, including significant drops in graduate enrollment, declines in retention rates, the failure of degree programs to move forward in a timely manner, and the need to create synergy among health-related programs and the medical school. Almost all of those challenges have now been successfully addressed. As a result, during the current transition I am charging Dr. Arney with reintegrating the divisions of Academic Affairs, Student Success, Strategic Enrollment and Student Affairs, and Research and Graduate Studies into a larger unit to be led by a Provost. Health Affairs and the School of Medicine will remain as they are.

I will provide updates and further information as we work through the transition.

Thank you for your commitment to UTRGV and all you do for our students.

Sincerely,

Guy Bailey
UTRGV President
