Message from the President

June 10, 2020

Dear UTRGV Family:

I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe.

Last month I appointed Dr. John Krouse, Executive Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine, to lead a Return to Campus Task Force charged with providing recommendations and procedures for bringing university operations back to campus in a safe and practical manner. I am happy to share with you today the task force’s final report, which is available by clicking here.

In the report, you will find an executive summary detailing at a high level the major recommendations of the Task Force and its workgroups. Additional actionable detail and specific information is outlined in the full report document, entitled “Return to Campus – Consolidated Report of the Task Force.”

This is the first step of a diligent process meant to bring students, faculty and staff back to campus while also ensuring everyone’s health and safety. The task force recommendations provide the framework for doing so. The next step is for each unit to develop a plan for its own area based on the guidance in the task force recommendations. In all cases, from services to instruction, our first priority is the health and safety of our campus community and the communities we serve.

In addition, our deans and faculty will use this final report to work together to determine and define how every course in the fall will be offered. That information is forthcoming and will be shared to help our students in planning a Fall Semester that best fits their needs.

Lastly, please join me in thanking Dr. Krouse, the task force and the workgroups for the time and effort they invested on our behalf.

For more information and the latest announcements, please visit UTRGV’s Return to Campus webpage. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please talk to your supervisor or email coronavirus@utrgv.edu.

Sincerely,

Guy Bailey
UTRGV President
