Message from the President

March 3, 2020

Dear Campus Community,

Have you voted yet? We’ve all heard the saying, “Your Vote is Your Voice.” Yet, far too few of us make our voices heard. According to the non-partisan group AACT (The Advocacy Alliance Center of Texas) there are over 600,000 registered voters in the Rio Grande Valley, but only 2 out of 10 of these registered voters vote. Two out of 10!

AACT has tracked early voting totals, including early voting totals of UTRGV employees and students. Thus far, of those registered to vote, only 20% of UTRGV employees have voted in the 2020 Texas Primary Election, and only 10.68% of UTRGV students have voted. If you want to have a voice on issues that affect the Rio Grande Valley, secure funding and resources, and ultimately build a better quality of life for the Rio Grande Valley, YOU HAVE TO VOTE!

It’s not too late. Today is Election Day and UTRGV’s Edinburg campus is fortunate to be a polling site during the 2020 Texas Primary Election. Voters registered in Hidalgo County can vote at our Edinburg-campus polling site or any other site within the County. Voters registered in Cameron County must vote at their precinct’s registered polling location. You can click on the links below for a list of the polling locations in Cameron County.

Republican Election Day Polling Locations:

Polls are open until 7 p.m.

Let’s show the Rio Grande Valley that UTRGV employees and students are informed, engaged, and vote!

Sincerely,

Guy Bailey
President
