Message from the President and Provost: Compensation Updates
September 15, 2023
Dear Faculty and Staff,
We have accomplished so much since our opening in 2015. Whether you have been here eight years or eight days, UTRGV is stronger right now because of you. After all, being named the #1 University in Texas by Washington Monthly does not just happen by accident. And we would not be here today without your contributions.
Looking ahead, we continue to be mindful and understand the pressures of this economic environment and want you to know that UTRGV is committed to supporting its employees through equitable compensation and benefits packages. That’s why, as announced in our UTRGV Day video, we are raising the minimum wage for staff from $13/hour to $16.25/hour. This adjustment will take effect December 2023 and will be reflected in affected employees' January 2024 paychecks.
Additionally, we will be implementing a 2% merit program for qualifying staff and faculty in December 2023, marking the eighth straight academic year we have invested in either merit and/or market equity for our employees. These increases will also be reflected in affected employees' January 2024 paychecks.
More detailed information regarding how we operationalize these salary adjustments will be forthcoming to managers and supervisors across the institution. Once the process is complete and decisions are finalized, every employee receiving an adjustment will receive a personalized letter outlining their total salary increase and the breakout by the type of increase.
You Are UTRGV
We are all on a journey. While our respective paths are unique, a common denominator we each share is this institution. Thank you for helping us make UTRGV the best university in Texas and the best place to work in the Valley.
Sincerely,
Guy Bailey
