Father-Son Project


The Father-Son Project (FSP) is focused on improving the father-son dynamic, offering participants the opportunity to strengthen their father/son bond and to engage in activities to boost self-esteem and shared learning. The Father-Son Project targets males in the seventh or eighth grade level and their fathers. FSP encourages and supports the completion of high school as well as the pursuit of higher education specifically with an interest in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Program Model

FSP provides monthly meetings with collegiate mentors, as well as bi-monthly evening sessions with fathers, and special events. FSP focuses on two essential components: Character Development and Leadership - while addressing the areas of Academic Enrichment, Career Exploration, Cultural Diversity, Community Outreach, and Social Development.

BLAST Summer Camp

The BLAST Summer Camp is a Summer Component of the Father-Son Project (FSP). It is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics based summer camp for boys. This camp is a residential program for students who have successfully completed the FSP school year in good standing. However, this camp will offer open enrollment to the community for a fee.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply, students should:

  • Be enrolled at a participating campus (contact UTRGV P16 Office for updated list, 956-665-7597)
  • Be entering 7th or 8th grade
  • Complete a Pre/Post Test 
  • Complete a UTRGV FSP application in its entirety
