Exam Proctoring for Online UTRGV Students

Schedule your Online Test Proctoring

What is Exam Proctoring?

A proctored exam is one that is overseen by an impartial individual (called a proctor) who monitors or supervises a student while he or she is taking an exam. The proctor ensures the security and integrity of the exam process.

Please note: COLTT will only proctor midterm and final exams administered via Blackboard for online courses offered by UTRGV.

How do I know if I need a Proctored Exam?

Check your course syllabus as soon as you can access your online course. The need to take proctored exams and your exam dates should be contained there. If the instructor requires no exams, that should be clearly stated. If you cannot make a determination from the syllabus, contact your instructor immediately for an answer.

What are the Student Responsibilities?

  1. Learn whether proctored tests will be used in a course by reviewing the syllabus and preliminary syllabus for your course.
  2. Review the “ Test Proctoring Policy, Guidelines, and Responsibilities for Online Students
  3. Submit a proctoring request online at least 2 weeks prior to exam date via our online proctoring form. Requests are scheduled, on a first come, first serve basis.
  4. Handle all communications with the proctor to arrange your testing date and time.
  5. Accept the calendar invite sent by the Center for Online Learning and Teaching Technology staff.
  6. Students are responsible to bring a current UTRGV Photo ID or State Issue ID.
  7. Students are responsible to bring allowable materials approved by the instructor.
  8. Arrive at the testing location 15 minutes earlier. Students arriving late may be asked to reschedule their appointments based upon facility resources.
  9. Take the exam during the time you arranged with the proctor.
  10. Respect other students in the testing facility by refraining from causing unnecessary distractions or noise.

Important Notes:

  1. If a student fails to follow these guidelines and responsibilities, she/he will be required to take the exam at the time arranged by the faculty for on-campus testing.
  2. If students miss an exam, an email will be sent notifying the instructor. The Center for Online Learning will then reschedule the exam based on availability and notify both instructor and student.
  3. If a student has more than one course that requires a proctored exam during a semester, the student must submit one request per course.
  4. The student will be notified within one week after the submission deadline whether the proctor choice has been approved.

Off-Campus Proctoring:

Some faculty teaching online courses include examinations that must be taken under the supervision of proctors. For those students that live outside the Rio Grande Valley area and need an exam proctored must coordinate with the instructor for an off-campus proctoring. Proctoring must be done in an approved proctoring services facilities. The price of proctoring services may range from $20.00 to $50.00, depending on the facility.  To aid in this search for a location that meets all requirements as defined herein and by your instructor, below is a link that includes the list of accredited universities and community colleges, listed by the state.
