How to Apply:

Step 1:   Apply or reapply to UTRGV via ApplyTexas.org and be accepted to UTRGV

All School of Nursing BSN applicants must apply or reapply to UTRGV via applytexas.org and be accepted to the university before applying to the BSN Program.   You must ensure that you have a UTRGV email address.

Important:  Ensure that all your official transcripts have been submitted for each college or university you attended where you earned any of the required 63 credits prerequisite course credits to Undergraduate AdmissionsSee BSN Roadmap for 63 credits in prerequisites.

For more information about how to apply to UTRGV as a Freshman,  Transfer, International, 2nd degree student, etc. see Undergraduate Admissions.

  • Currently enrolled students at UTRGV:  Go to step 2 if your UTRGV application is up to date.  Currently enrolled UTRGV students in their last term, can reapply during their last term after applying for graduation.  You do not need to wait until you graduate to reapply.
  • New students: visit Undergraduate Admissions and review “how to apply” to UTRGV.
  • Re-admit students: you are a re-admit applicant if you are a former UTRGV or UT Pan American/UTB/TSC student still seeking your first bachelor's degree, even if you have enrolled at another college or university since you last attended UTRGV or UTPA/UTB/TSC.  Visit Undergraduate Admissions and review “how to re-apply” to UTRGV.
  • Second Degree Students (those with a bachelor’s degree):  if you previously graduated with a bachelor’s degree, review the admissions process for “Second Degree Students” and how to pursue a second bachelor’s degree. Reminder, submit your official transcripts from each institution where you earned your course credits that apply to all required 63 hours of BSN prerequisites, including core. Transcripts with transfer credit notations for required courses cannot be used or evaluated.

If you have questions regarding applying to UTRGV, please contact Admissions; call 888-882-4026 or 956-882-8983 or email admissions@utrgv.edu.

Step 2:  Apply to the UTRGV School of Nursing

After completing your UTRGV application and being accepted to UTRGV, complete and submit your School of Nursing Application on TK20 for your intended BSN program of study.

School of Nursing applicants must be accepted to the School of Nursing in addition to being accepted to UTRGV before enrolling in upper-division nursing courses.  Admission applications are reviewed and decided upon by the College of Nursing UAPG Committee.  Students will be evaluated for admission based on space availability after being rank-ordered using the total points obtained from the Generic BSN  or 2nd Degree BSN Admission Criteria.

A 75% or higher is required for the components of HESI Admission Assessment Exam. Please ensure you upload your Grammar, Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Math, Anatomy and Physiology, and Critical Thinking scores to TK20.

We offer three pathways to a BSN degree.  Ensure that you are selecting the appropriate program of study from the list below.

  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)  is a generic BSN program for students who are currently not RNs
  2. Second Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) for students who already have a non-nursing bachelor’s or higher degree and are seeking a second bachelor’s degree
  3. RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is for students who already have an associate degree in nursing (ADN) and are seeking a BSN
