The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program was approved in 1993 and admitted its first students during Summer 1994. The MSN program offers three degrees:  Family Nurse Practitioner (NP), Nursing Administration, and Nursing Education. In addition, it has a postmaster’s certification in Psychiatric Mental Health NP. 

On September 1, 2015, the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certificate was launched with the inauguration of UTRGV.



Transition to Graduate Nursing Education and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

The School of Nursing offers a graduate program leading to the Master of Science in Nursing with specialty options in Nursing Education or Nursing Administration.

Registered nurses with a baccalaureate degree in a field other than nursing may qualify for application to the MSN Program by completing the Transition to Graduate Nursing course, a 100% online 6-credit hour course.
