Degree Plan


We offer a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)-Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) which is designed for BSN-prepared nurses interested in meeting the healthcare needs of individuals and families by providing comprehensive health care through the lifespan. As an advanced practice or APRN nurse, the FNP embodies a philosophy of individualized care and holistic care. The priorities of the practice for FNPs focus on wellness, health promotion, disease prevention, and client education in a variety of primary care settings. The goal of the MSN-FNP program is to help prepare advanced practice registered nurses to provide safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care.

MSN FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER PROGRAM:

To be admitted to the graduate program in nursing – family nurse practitioner, prospective candidates must first meet all requirements for graduate admission to UTRGV, as well as the other requirements listed below:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN).
  • Submission of three letters of recommendation.
  • Submission of a letter of intent.
  • Submission of a resume.
  • Successful completion of undergraduate statistics course.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Criminal background check.
  • Evidence of current immunizations required by the Texas Department of Heath for students in health-related academic programs.
