Hours of Operation

The UTRGV Libraries are staffed and open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed on Saturday and Sunday beginning June 1st. Please check our hours page for more information.

After-hours Access Policy

24/7/365 access to the Aaronson and Ramirez Libraries is available to UTRGV School of Medicine students and residents. ID cards are required for entry beyond regular hours shown above. Users must be registered for building access in advance, and a valid UTRGV ID badge must be worn and visible at all times within the building. Users may be asked to verify affiliation with the School of Medicine. Compliance with the library’s policies and procedures, as well as applicable institutional policies is required.

When Visiting the Library

  • Face masks/coverings are required to enter and use all library spaces.
  • Furniture and computer workstations have been adjusted for physical distancing; for your safety, do not study in groups or move the furniture.

Practice Physical Distancing

  • No groups of 10 or more
  • Maintain physical distance (6 feet)
  • Cover coughs / sneezes
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Wash hands for 20 seconds

Computer Labs

  • Library computers are available to provide internet and computer access to students who do not have access to a computer or internet service at home.
  • Computer cleaning practices have been enhanced.  Computer stations are wiped down to keep the surfaces clean.
  • Please wash your hands before and after using the computer lab.  Hand sanitizer is available at library service counters.

Circulation

After-hours checkout:

Medical students and residents needing to checkout a book when the library is not staffed may do so. Please use the after-hours checkout list to log the items you are taking.  The checkout list and instructions are located in the shelving areas of both libraries.  Instructions for renewals and returns are also posted.

Please note:

  • All checked out library items will have automatic renewals, and due dates will automatically be extended.
  • Some items are not available for check-out at this time (headphones and models).
  • No late fines and student blocks will be assessed during this time period.
  • Specific questions on library loans, requests, fines and fees can be directed to the Ramirez Library in (Harlingen): (956) 296-1500, to the Aaronson Library (Edinburg): (956) 296-1601 or via email: somlibrary@utrgv.edu.

Remote Research and Curriculum Support

  • Staff are readily available to assist users through phone and email.
  • Users may also set up virtual consultations with librarians.

Article Delivery and Literature Search Requests

Please email you request to somlibrary@utrgv.edu.  Library staff will deliver documents to you electronically.  Documents may also be picked up at the Aaronson or Ramirez Libraries service desks, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Interlibrary Loan

Your request may be cancelled, and availability of items may be limited due to delivery or closures of other libraries. Please email the ILL Department at ill@utrgv.edu with your questions.

Collection Development

The libraries will not be accepting collection donations for the time being.
