Description:
The Basic English Program is designed for adult learners who want to learn the basic skills of the English language. We aim to provide participants with a rich learning experience through the development of fundamental and engaging language skills.
Program Details:
- Learn the fundamentals of the English language through activities.
- Use simple words and short sentences to describe everyday objects, people, and locations.
- Using Speaking and Listening activities, participants will be able to function and communicate confidently in an English-speaking environment.
- Read brief paragraphs, answer comprehension questions, and explore fundamental vocabulary words.
Application and Payment
- Submit Program Application
- Upon application completion, you will receive a link to process the English Placement Test (EPT) payment. $75 Fee, Non-Refundable. EPT test is valid for 6 months.
- Upon completion of the English Placement Test you will be placed in a level based on your results. You will receive a link to complete tuition payment via TouchNet.
- If the level is not available, program staff will advise on available options.
- Participants must be 18 years or older.
- U.S. Citizens or Resident Aliens should bring their birth certificate, resident alien card or employment authorization letter.
- The Basic English Program is not available for F-1 visa international students. However, international students may enroll in our Intensive or Semi-Intensive English Programs.
- Transfers to another session are not allowed without prior approval.
- In order to receive a refund of your registration fee, we require a written request emailed to pewd@utrgv.edu. The written request has to be emailed at least 3 business days prior to the start date of the course. Partial refunds are not available.
- It takes 5-7 business days to process refunds for credit/debit card payments.
- Before enrolling, new participants under the age of 22 must submit evidence of receiving the meningitis vaccine, booster shot (administered within the past five years), or evidence of exemption. Participants must provide proof of vaccination at least 10 days before the first day of the program.
