International Education Week 2024

International Education Week (IEW) promoted by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is celebrated throughout the United States and many countries around the world. IEW provides an opportunity to recognize international education, cultural understanding, and exchange worldwide for all UTRGV members and our surrounding community. This year will be celebrated  November 15 -25, 2024. 

IEW is a unique way for UTRGV to internationalize our campus and promote the concept of global citizenship to our students, which in turn helps prepare them for entering today’s global workforce. Events are planned with the following learning outcomes in mind:

  • Help students gain a greater level of understanding and appreciation for different world cultures.
  • Create cultural opportunities for international and domestic students to interact.
  • Allow international students to share information about their home country.

Opening Ceremony - Monday, November 18 

Edinburg - ESSBL Visitor's Center; 11:00 a.m. 

International Student Services will be hosting an opening ceremony, where we will host our distinguished guests: Edinburg Mayor, Ramiro Garza Jr., and UTRGV Professor, Dr. Francis Andoh Baidoo, with live entertainment by UTRGV Jazz Ensemble. 


 

International Game Day - Tuesday, November 19

Edinburg, ESTAC Lobby; 12:00 p.m.

Join us for a fun-filled International Games Day celebration! Whether you’re a fan of board games, card games, or tabletop role-playing, this event has something for everyone. Come solo or bring friends to explore various games from around the world, challenge yourself with new games, and revisit some classics. 

In addition to games, there will be snacks, prizes, and plenty of opportunities to connect with other game enthusiasts. 
Open to all skill levels—bring your enthusiasm for games and get ready to play, compete, and connect in a lively international celebration of games!

 


International Job Ready: Skills & Strategies Session - Tuesday, November 19

Edinburg Borderlands Room - EDUC 3.204; 3:00 p.m.

Prepare to launch your career with confidence at our International Job Ready: Skills & Strategies Session! This interactive event is designed to equip you with essential skills and insider tips tailored for international job markets. Engage with industry professionals, learn effective resume-building techniques, refine your interview skills, and explore strategies for networking across cultures. Whether you’re entering the workforce or looking to elevate your career, this session will provide the tools and guidance to help you succeed. Open to all levels, from recent graduates to seasoned professionals—bring your questions and be ready to boost your job-readiness skills!

 


Ghana Fest - Wednesday, November 20

 Edinburg - ESSBL Visitor's Center - 12:00 p.m.

Immerse yourself in the vibrant flavors and rich culture of Ghana at our International Food Festival: Ghana Edition! This event brings Ghana’s culinary heritage to life with traditional dishes.  Savor iconic Ghanaian flavors prepared by talented local chefs.

Join us for a cultural feast that celebrates Ghanaian cuisine, community, and spirit.

 


Coffee from Around the World - Thursday, November 21

 Brownsville - Patio Plumeria; 9:30 a.m. 

Embark on a caffeinated journey at our Coffee from Around the World tasting event! Discover the rich aromas, unique flavors, and brewing traditions of coffee cultures across the globe. From the bold, earthy blends of Ethiopia to the smooth, chocolatey notes of Colombian beans, each cup tells a story of origin and craft. Enjoy expertly brewed samples, learn from coffee experts about regional coffee-growing practices, and explore methods like pour-over, French press, and espresso.

 


Thanksgiving Lunch -  Monday, November 25

 Edinburg Ballroom - EDBCX; 11:30 a.m.

Celebrate Thanksgiving with us at a special luncheon just for international students! Join fellow students, faculty, and staff for a warm, welcoming gathering featuring traditional Thanksgiving dishes and global flavors. This event offers a chance to experience a cherished American holiday, enjoy delicious food, and share gratitude with a diverse community.

Whether Thanksgiving is new to you or a familiar tradition, come connect, relax, and celebrate together. All are welcome—bring your appetite and curiosity to learn more about this holiday, share your own cultural traditions, and make new friends.
