Plan early
It is never too early to start planning to study abroad. Vaqueros programs typically run in the Minimester, Summer I, and Summer II terms. Speak to an International Programs Specialist in our office (Edinburg ESTAC 3.128, Brownsville MAIN 1.308) and with your Academic Advisor to begin planning your study abroad experience.

Step 1: Study Abroad Begins with your Passport.
You Must Apply in Person if:
- You are applying for your first U.S. passport.
- Your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under age 16.
- Your previous U.S. passport was lost, stolen, or damaged.
- Your previous U.S. passport was issued more than 15 years ago.
- Your name has changed and you are unable to document your name change.
Renew by Mail if Your Most Recent Passport:
- Is undamaged and can be submitted with your application.
- Was issued when you were age 16 or older.
- Was issued within the last 15 years.
- Was issued in the exact same name as your previous passport or you can legally document your name change with original or certified copy of your marriage certificate or the government-issued document.
Step 2: Study Abroad Application

- You will be charged a non-refundable $125 application fee only when your application is approved AND your program actually meets its enrollment numbers and is approved. You will not be charged the application fee if your application is not approved OR your study abroad program is not approved due to low enrollments or other events. You will also need to meet with the program specialist assigned to your program.

Step 3: Approval
After your application and supporting, documents have been submitted you will receive a notification that you have been approved to attend the study abroad program. All pertinent information concerning your study abroad program such as travel and logistics will be communicated to you once you have been approved.
Step 4 (If Applicable):
Please Check in with Dean of Student Office and IPP Office if this form in required in order to travel.

Minimester: January 31st*
Summer I: March 1st*
Summer II: April 2nd*
(*some programs may have a different application deadline)
International Education Fee Scholarship: March 31st, 2023*
(*Deadline for Minimester and Summer I term is March 3rd, 2023)
