Pop Culture Committee

The Pop-Culture committee promotes an active and engaging “night-life” and variety programming designed to engage and keep students on campus as a safe and healthy alternative to traditional nightlife outside the university setting. The Pop-Culture committee continues to host standing events such as Vaqueros on the Mic and Vaqueros Got Talent but ventured out and hosted Selena Night in celebration of the Tejano singer’s legacy and contributions to Tejano music. This committee also programs cinema-based events that serve not just as recreational programming but cover cultural, social change, and inclusivity themes that serve as an avenue to generate discussion and awareness. They newly implemented UTRGV Movie Nights at local movie theaters as a means to generate better student engagement with the organization by providing admission to new released movies Fifty Shades Freed and Avengers Infinity War.
