GRE & GMAT Entrance Exams

About the Exams:

The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is a required admissions test for most graduate college programs at UTRGV. It consist of the following subjects: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. For more information or to register to take the GRE exam visit www.ets.org/gre/

The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is an admissions test often required for some of our Business School Programs. It consist of the following four sections: Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative, and Verbal. For more information or to register to take the GMAT exam visit www.mba.com

GRE Fee Reduction Program (Offered by ETS):

The GRE program makes available a limited number of GRE fee reduction waivers for college seniors and unenrolled college graduates who meet eligibility requirements. If the eligibility criteria is met only 50% of the full test fee will need to be paid. Below are the steps to apply for a GRE fee reduction waiver.

  3. There is also a Fee reduction program for the Unemployed, on a first come, first served basis to those who meet the eligibility criteria

Free GRE & GMAT Practice Tests (For UTRGV Students, Staff & Faculty):

Visit our university library webpage to find FREE GRE or GMAT practice exams. Once on this page you will need to create an account so that you can access this information. Hard copy study guides can also be located in section LB 2367.4 at either of our Edinburg or Brownsville university libraries.

GRE/GMAT FAQ's

  • Is the GRE required?

    • Most graduate programs do require the GRE examination. However, individual minimum test score requirements and waivers vary by department. For the specifics on your program of interest please visit Graduate programs and select the program of your interest.
  • Is the GMAT required?

    • The GMAT is the preferred exam for students who are interested in UTRGV’s MBA or PhD programs, but is an optional alternative to the GRE. However, the exam is a requirement for admission into the Accountancy (MACC) program. For minimum test score requirements and waivers for your program of interest please visit Graduate programs and select the program of your interest.
  • How can I prepare for the GRE or GMAT exam?
