Medical Science (MMS)
The Master of Medical Science is a one-year specialized graduate program. It is designed to prepare graduates with diverse academic, scientific, and professional skill sets which will open doors to multiple careers in the medical and biomedical fields and academic pathways. The program will prepare graduates to pursue further academic training in medicine, professional health school, and doctorates in medical sciences by completing a rigorous combination of multidisciplinary coursework. Students will build a strong knowledge of basic medical sciences through a challenging curriculum developed by experienced basic and clinical science faculty at the UTRGV School of Medicine. The core curriculum includes Human Anatomy, Medical Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Medical Biochemistry, Medical Statistics and Genetics, Introduction to Clinical Research, Ethics in Biomedical Research, and Recent Advances in Biomedical Science.
The Master of Medical Science graduate program begins in Fall 2023.

Review and submit all Program Requirements:
- Official transcripts from all institutions attended demonstrate an awarded baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a minimum earned GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) on the graduate admission GPA calculation.
- Standardized test scores: GRE or MCAT or DAT
- Prerequisite courses:
- English (6 SCH)
- Biological Sciences (8 SCH)
- Biochemistry (3 SCH)
- Chemistry (8 SCH)
- Organic Chemistry (8 SCH)
- Physics ( 8 SCH)
- Statistics (3 SCH)
- Each prerequisite course must be completed with a grade of “C” or better
- Personal Statement: One-page statement that highlights your strengths as an applicant, motivation for this program, and relevant extracurricular activities.
- Two letters of recommendation (at least one of the letters must be an academic reference; the second letter of recommendation may be academic or professional).

- University Services Fee - $38.10 per hour ($457.20 maximum)

- Intercollegiate Athletics Fee - $15.00 per hour ($180.00 maximum)
- Recreation Fee ‐ $75 per Fall or Spring; $37.50 per summer term
- Medical Services Fee ‐ $30 per Fall or Spring; $15 per summer term
- Student Union Fee ‐ $30 per Fall or Spring; $15 per summer term
All resident tuition and mandatory fees are shown above remain the same for hours over 20. Add $408 nonresident tuition for each hour over 20.
