Fall FESTIBA 2023-2024
Inspiring Hope and Prosperity through Arts and Literacy
The Festival of International Books and Arts (FESTIBA) was established in 2006 to promote the importance of literacy, culture and the arts to students, parents, educators and community members throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
FALL FESTIBA 2023 will feature a Gear UP Day on November 1st, 2023. The mission this year is to explore the theme of Inspiring Hope and Prosperity Through Arts and Literacy.
The imagery for FESTIBA 2023-2024 is the hummingbird, which has fascinated humans since ancient times, thus becoming a powerful symbol. Hummingbird symbolism, both spiritual and physical, is found in cultures all over the world. Encountering a hummingbird is seen in many cultures as an indication of good news and impending positives changes. Characteristics associated with hummingbirds include endurance, eternity, good luck, health and vitality, and divine messages. These beautiful and unique birds are associated with life, love, beauty, joy and freedom. They remind us to forever seek out the good in life and beauty in each day.

FESTIBA: Inspiring Hope & Prosperity through ARTS & LITERACY
A work of art has the power to move, whether it is a song, a play, a poem, a novel, or a painting. When we are touched, we are moved; we are transported to a new place as we become aware of a feeling that may not be unfamiliar to us but which we did not actively focus on before. This transformative experience is what art is constantly seeking. The creative and cultural arts represent one of the few areas in our society where people can come together to share an experience, even if they see the world in radically different ways. The important thing is not that we agree about the experience that we share, but that we consider it worthwhile sharing an experience at all. In art and other forms of cultural expression, disagreement is accepted and embraced as an essential ingredient. In this sense, the emotions and experiences created by the creative and cultural arts is potentially a great source of inspiration for bringing people together and transforming communities.
