Purpose The primary purpose of the Athletic Council is to provide oversight to ensure compliance with the provisions set forth by the UT system, institution, conference, and NCAA Division I rules and regulations. UTRGV also has an Athletic Council that reports to the president. The primary purpose of the Athletic Council is to discuss, review, recommend, and provide oversight for assuring compliance with athletic policies and procedures in accordance with the provisions outlined in UTRGV's Handbook of Operating Procedures, NCAA Division I rules and regulations, and conference constitution, bylaws, and rules. The Athletic Council is chaired by the faculty athletics representative who reports directly to the president. Faculty members are nominated by the Faculty Athletic Representative and appointed by the president for two-year terms. Reappointments may be made for a maximum of one consecutive term. Community members are appointed by the president and serve at his discretion.

Campus Connect will work to promote greater consistency in programs and services of all types for students, faculty, and staff across UTRGV’s multiple campuses. To do this, the committee will examine academic programs; recruitment, retention, and completion; campus life; and administrative services.

The committee will develop a formal proposal for the creation of UTRGV’s Alma Mater and Fight Song. The committee will provide a recommendation for the selection of music and lyrics that appeal to the culture of the institution.

The committee has responsibility for conducting review of new or amended policies for the UTRGV Handbook of Operating Procedures (HOP) . The HOP contains policies and procedures for the governance of the university, as required by the UT System Regents’ Rules (Rule 20201: Presidents, Sec. 4.9).

The purpose of the Parking & Traffic Advisory Committee (PTAC) is to review parking and traffic regulations and to develop recommendations for revisions in these regulations as are necessary to an efficient parking and traffic system as it relates to differential parking zones, parking fees, penalties for violations of regulations, arrangements for bicycles, motorcycles, and pedestrian traffic.

The purpose of the Research and Educational Technology Committee (RETC) is to recommend and prioritize technology initiatives to support research and educational technologies across campus. The committee will provide directional leadership for the University’s research capabilities, learning management system, lecture capture, teaching and collaboration tools and classroom technology tools. It will also identify medical education and other technologies to meet the specific needs of the School of Medicine. In addition, this committee will create long-term master plans and roadmaps that include new initiatives, upgrades and retirements of solutions that are no longer needed.

The purpose of the Student Fee Advisory Committee (SFAC) is to advise the university president on the allocation of the student services fee.

The purpose of the Student Union Advisory Board (SUAB) is to advise the administration regarding the use of Student Union fees as prescribed by statute, to recommend general and specific policies, to guide the programming officers and committees, and to advise operating departments.

The Title IX Committee was created to give students, faculty and staff the opportunity to address equity-related issues on campus. The Title IX Committee assists the University Title IX Coordinator with respect to the University’s Title IX compliance efforts and provides the University with advice on promoting a campus culture of respect and responsibility and in identifying and deploying effective measures to prevent and address sexual misconduct.

The purpose of the University Food Services Advisory Committee is to ensure compliance with Section 51.945 of the Texas Education Code, which requires the institution to obtain meaningful input from students regarding the qualifications for, and the award or renewal of, a contract for any vendor of food services engaged principally to serve students faculty and staff, or to provide campus-wide vending for food or beverage products.

The purpose of the University Recreation Advisory Committee is to maintain a communication link between Wellness and Recreational Sports participants (Intramural, Open Recreation, Sports Clubs, Special Events/Outreach, and Fitness/Wellness) and the management staff in order to obtain advice and assistance by maximizing the efficient and effective use of the wellness and recreational resources at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. The committee serves as the spokesperson on suggested issues pertaining to facilities, programs, and services offered to the University community.
