Who We Are
The linguistics and ESL programs at UTRGV are committed to the teaching and research of languages. We strive to prepare both students for successful careers in English language teaching in local ESL or EFL contexts and students who want to pursue graduate degrees and careers in linguistic and language-learning research. Language research and language teaching are especially relevant in our location right at the U.S.-Mexico border. The Rio Grande Valley is replete with enriching opportunities for language research and teaching. We aim to serve the local community while preparing students to serve language learners beyond the valley as well.
A part of the Department of Writing & Language Studies at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, we offer several exciting graduate and undergraduate programs in the areas of ESL and Linguistics. Our graduate programs incude the Master of Arts (MA) in English as a Second Language and the Master of Arts in English- Linguistics Track.
