Student Organizations

As a student at UTRGV, you have the opportunity to join a variety of clubs and organizations that can enrich your college experience and help you develop valuable skills.

Whether you're interested in scientific research, community outreach, or simply meeting like-minded students, there's a club or organization that's right for you. Check out some of our student organizations from the College of Sciences:

American Medical Student Association

The American Medical Student Association (AMSA), with a half-century history of medical student activism, is the oldest and largest independent association of physicians-in-training in the United States. Today, AMSA is a student-governed, national organization committed to representing the concerns of physicians-in-training. AMSA members are medical students, premedical students, interns, residents and practicing physicians.

Astronomy Club

The Astronomy Club is a group of individuals who share a passion for exploring the wonders of the cosmos. If you have a fascination for space and the universe, then joining our club will provide you with an opportunity to learn more about astronomy and share your knowledge with others. Join us, and together we can explore the wonders of the universe!

Biology Club

The Biology club above all will work to build your existing knowledge of biology and provide you an opportunity to give back to the community in the small but impacting ways we can. Aside from being goal determined, we also want our members to meet wonderful individuals inside the club and really dive into the college experience.

Elliott Chemical Society

The Elliott Chemical Society is an organization for all science lovers, especially for chemistry! Throughout the year, we will host special events like periodic table bake sales, chemistry magic shows, trivia nights, movie/binge-watching, and more! At every general meeting, a chemistry department professor will speak about his/her research. So over the year, you will learn about the many different topics in chemistry!

Geology Club

The Geology club hopes to make the field of geology more appealing to students of all majors. We encourage members old and new to join us on our many outdoor activities to appreciate and enjoy earth's might and wonder.

Latino Medical Student Association Plus

The Latino Medical Student Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded to represent, support, educate, and unify US Latino(a) medical students.

The LMSA Mission is the following: The Latino Medical Student Association unites and empowers Pre-Medical and Medical students through service, mentorship and education to advocate for the health of the Latino community.

Pre-Dental Society

The Pre-Dental Society at UTRGV is the best resource for Pre-Dental students who are looking to learn about what classes to take, volunteer opportunities, how to apply to dental school, and so much more. We make an effort to assist our members in becoming competitive dental school applicants through educational opportunities, community service, and exposure to the dental field. This organization is dedicated to helping students reach their goals in the field of dentistry.

Pre-Optometry Society

The purpose of the Pre-Optometry Society will be to promote awareness of the optometric career field. The Pre-Optometry Society will inform potential students about what the profession is, the undergraduate prerequisites needed for the pre-optometry major, steps needed to take to apply to optometry schools, and to look into different optometry schools to become familiar with their requirements in order to facilitate the process of applying.

Pre-PA Society

The goal of this society is to inform about and provide a network of healthcare professionals for students interested in the Physician Assistant profession. During meetings, we will discuss important information concerning the PA profession and the application process for PA schools. Guest speakers will also be brought into the meetings to provide insight and first hand experience about their lives as PAs.

oSTEM

The oSTEM chapter at UTRGV aims to empowers LGBTQ+ people in STEM to succeed personally, academically, and professionally by cultivating environments and communities that nurture innovation, leadership, and advocacy.

Society of Physics Students

The Society of Physics students promotes Physics and advocates ethics and professionalism among all members of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) at UTRGV. The Society of Physics Students provides a formal and informal learning community for students who share a love for physics. SPS informs and educates the public about physics. We also serve our community of the Rio Grande Valley by attending STEM events and/or by volunteering.
