Academic Continuity Update

Wednesday, March 11, 2020 :: Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affair

We know many of you may have concerns about the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Please know, UTRGV is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and working to develop response plans based on known best-practices. An important first step is to reduce risk is by implementing preventive measures such as:

  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Staying home when you are sick,
  • Coughing or sneezing into your elbow, and
  • Using verbal forms of greeting in lieu of shaking hands.

Academic Affairs and Health Affairs are working with professors to ensure we maintain academic continuity should you need to stay home so that you are able to continue your course work with minimal disruptions. We are also developing steps to help you continue to participate in class and to limit possible disruptions to your academic work. Please reach out to your professor if you think you may be exhibiting the symptoms of COVID-19.

We encourage you to visit our website to obtain updates on COVID-19 and UTRGV. We are in frequent communication with and are following recommendations of public health officials. Your health and safety are our highest priorities and will continue to be at the forefront of our decisions moving forward.

Sincerely,

John H. Krouse, MD, PhD, MBA
Executive Vice President, Health Affairs

Patricia Alvarez McHatton, PhD
