Special Issue on Bilingual Pedagogy at UTRGV post content graphic

In December, 2021, Dr. Katherine Christoffersen together with M.A. student Ms.Kimberly Regalado published an article entitled "Toda lengua es válida aquí en esta clase: Translanguaging pedagogy and critical language awareness in sociolinguistics classes on the U.S.-Mexico border" in the Journal of Bilingual Education Research and Instruction.

This article is a part of a special issue organized by the Center of Bilingual Studies (CBS) which includes articles by professors from throughout the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley wrote about integrating bilingual pedagogies in their courses in diverse fields, such as biology, engineering, and philosophy. This fits into the B3 mission to develop UTRGV as a bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate institution. As a part of this initiative, CBS organized a set of three workshops on bilingual pedagogy in Fall 2021 for faculty at UTRGV.

The article by Dr. Christoffersen and Ms. Regalado reports the translanguaging pedagogy and code-switching practices of students in the community-engaged scholarship courses working on the CoBiVa.
