The department, consisting of 27 full-time faculty members, offers a B.A. and M.S. in sociology and a B.A. and Master of Arts Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS) in anthropology, as well as undergraduate minors in each respective field. Faculty in the department also play a vital role in the newly launched interdisciplinary Disaster Studies M.A program. Internships and faculty-mentored research opportunities are available to students. The department also supports both a Sociology Club and an Anthropology Club and recognizes outstanding students through induction into the respective national honor societies: Alpha Kappa Delta and Lambda Alpha. The department integrates community engagement into the curriculum with programs such as CHAPS (the Community Historical Archaeology Project with Schools) and curating the Border Studies Archive.
