Q & A with Dr. Alejandro Garcia, Associate Professor in the Department of Organization and School Leadership
What are your research interests and research achievements?
I have several research interests. One of them deals with technology leadership and how K-12 campus administrators can evaluate and support campus teachers while being technology leaders. Another area of research interest deals with leadership and student success. I’ve published several papers that deal with how campus administrators can lead and support teachers with student achievement.
How does your work align with UTRGV’s and CEP’s strategic plans?
My research is primarily aligned to College of Education and P-16 Integration’s goals of “Student Success.” My research is aimed towards the role of the campus leader and their support of teachers in the areas of technology integration and student achievement.
What are your current projects?
Teacher’s preparation and support during the Pandemic. This qualitative study aims to discover how teachers felt about their preparation and support from their district and campus in dealing with distance education and what type of support they felt they provided to teachers during the Corona Virus pandemic.
Student Perceptions about Academic Coaching and in an online graduate course. The purpose of this study is to investigate the graduate student’s perceptions of the effectiveness of academic coaches in an asynchronous accelerated online Master’s in Educational Leadership program.
The role of the Principal in supporting Teacher Leaders and its Impact on student performance. This mixed methods study will focus on the role of principals in the Region I service area of the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) and how they went about supporting teacher leaders and its impact on student performance.
