Spanish as a Linguistic Resource in the Teaching and Learning of Math and Science
Dr. Angela Chapman
Associate Professor, Department of Teaching and Learning
High school curricula (algebra, anatomy, biology, chemistry, physics) that integrated Spanish strategies were developed, implemented, and tested in three different school districts over the last 6 years. A mixed methods design was used to measure high school students’ learning gains as well as changes in their interest and attitudes towards STEM and Spanish. An educative curricula model was employed that provided professional development for in-service teachers and experiential learning for preservice teachers in a high school classroom.
