UTRGV Robotics team ranked first in Texas at annual Region 5 IEEE competition

Our UTRG Robotics Team composed of Samuel Roberts (Senior, Electrical Engineering), Salvador Garza (Senior, Electrical Engineering), and Joshua Acosta (Senior, Computer Engineering) competed with their mobile robot on Saturday, April 7 in Austin as part of the annual IEEE Region 5 Robotics Competition. They competed against 31 teams from other universities from several states that include Texas, Colorado, Louisiana, and Arkansas.
Our student team was placed 4th overall, but ranked 1st among all participating teams from universities in Texas that include UT Austin, UT Arlington, UT Tyler, Lamar University, and University of Houston. Faculty and students from other universities and IEEE national officers were extremely impressed with our students’ robotics design and performance at the competition. Several of them came to our station to personally communicate their congratulations to our students.
We are extremely proud of the accomplishment of our student robotics team and we are lucky to have them in our program. We look forward to following their continued success after they graduate this May.
Congratulations to Samuel, Salvador, and Joshua!
