Medical Administrative Assistant

Medical administrative assistants, medical secretaries, and medical records clerks are all positions in great demand, in a field that is expected to grow by an impressive 34% through 2018. This program is intended to provide students with a well-rounded introduction to medical administration to provide the necessary skills required to obtain a medical administrative assistant position in the healthcare field. Participants will learn important skills required in the medical assisting profession and interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing and coding, telephone techniques, scheduling appointments, medical records management and management of practice finances.

Students interested in front and back office work in a clinic, physician office, or outpatient facilities. The student should have or are on track to have their high school diploma or GED.

Students must have a high school diploma, GED, or to be on track to receive either of those. Participants must also possess a minimum 10-grade level math and reading skills as well.

Note: Persons must be at least 18 years old to sit for the national certification exam after completing this course.
