Student Employment Process

Looking for job opportunities?  

In order to view job postings on UTRGV Handshake, you will need to activate your account by logging into  

  1. Log in with your UTRGV credentials 

  1. Under applications click on the Handshake icon* if icon is not available, contact 

  1. Under the “My Account tab you will need to: 

  1. Click “My Profile” and complete missing information  

  1. Click “My Documents” to upload your resume 

  1. Contact Career Center offices to request resume review 

  1. Once  your account is activated, you will be e-mailed a notification granting you access to search for employment opportunities  

  1. Make sure to follow application instructions on job posting(s)  

Getting job on campus 

  1. Types of jobs available on campus include Direct Wage (DW)Work-Study (WS) and Student Employment Initiative (SEI). Eligibility requirements differ for each type of job.  

  1. Once the department reviews your Handshake profile, they may select you for an interview.  

  1. If you are offered the position, the department will provide you with instructions for completing the following:  

  1. Criminal Background Check (CBC) 

  1. I-9 form and additional on-boarding documents *you will need to visit Human Resources (HR) to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. and proof of identification

The hiring department will be notified by HR when you have been authorized to begin employment  Keep in mind that student(s)cannot begin employment until completely cleared by Human Resources. The hiring process takes 5-10 business days or more.  

Officially hired 

  1. Discuss with your hiring department/supervisor: 

  1. Compliance Trainings (must complete during the first 30 days) 

  1. Direct Deposit/Pay Card option 

  1. Timecard on Oracle *access may not be immediately available
