Associate to Full Professor Program
As part of UTRGV’s National Science Foundation (NSF) ADVANCE grant and UTRGV’s commitment to the retention and advancement of a diverse and world-class faculty, pleased to announce the establishment of the Associate to Full Program (ATFP). This year-long Program is designed to support the advancement of Associate Professors who face a new set of demands that arise after tenure.
While the goal of the UTRGV ADVANCE Program is to increase the representation and advancement of women faculty in STEM (science, technology, mathematics, and engineering) fields, particularly Hispanics, we encourage the participation of all tenured Associate Professors at UTRGV, regardless of gender, race/ethnicity, college, or academic discipline, who expect to apply for promotion to Professor in the next 3-5 years.
The inaugural ATFP started in the 2015-16 academic year. It consists of seven sessions/workshops on topics such as managing post-tenure career-life integration, enhancing research, navigating external and internal funding sources, and networking for advancement. A common thread throughout the sessions will consider potentially unique challenges that STEM women, Hispanics, and other faculty of color at the Associate Professor rank experience post-tenure. Moreover, the ATFP participants will be matched with a mentor to support their career and leadership development. When possible, the ATFP will match participants to their mentor of choice; see the application form for details.
These seven sessions/workshops will be held on Friday afternoons, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., throughout the academic year. Lunch will be provided. Participants are required to attend all seven sessions to successfully complete the program. See the attached tentative program for more details.
