About the Program

The mission on the Graduate College in Higher Education Teaching is to equip faculty, adjunct, and teaching assistants in higher education and other learning organizations develop knowledge and skills associated with high-impact teaching while advancing their careers in the rapidly changing professional landscape of adult learning.

This program has rolling admissions which means we accept applications throughout the year.  Our first cohort will begin this fall 2020 Module I term

Courses

The course presents an overview of the history and theories of distance instruction in higher education and hands-on experience designing and implementing best-practice pedagogy for online, blended and virtual environments.
Students will examine, synthesize and apply research-based models of higher education teaching. Research in teacher effectiveness and demonstration of models is required.
This course will examine inclusive, accessible and responsive pedagogy with an emphasis on culturally, linguistically, ethnically, generationally, and ability diverse learners. Theories, methods, pedagogical tools, and curriculum that support student success in higher education will also be emphasized.
This course focuses on cognitive development from adolescence throughout the lifespan and learning theories applied in the practice of teaching in higher education contexts. Practical, brain-based instruction strategies and research on motivation as it influences adult learners will be emphasized.
