Welcome to the Office of Faculty and Research Support (OFRS)
OFRS, part of the IT support department, provides faculty and researchers with a more personal and collaborative interface to the IT division. Our team is committed to understanding the unique needs of your teaching and research activities. We encourage you to visit us, share your goals, and let us know how OFRS can support your work with the right technological tools and expertise.
We work closely with departments across campus, including physics, chemistry, computer science, engineering, and the College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Through these partnerships, we help faculty and research groups integrate technology into their projects, streamline workflows, and enhance the overall research experience at UTRGV.
A major ongoing initiative is the server virtualization project, where we transition physical computer servers into virtual servers hosted and maintained internally. This effort improves reliability, security, and scalability while reducing the physical and financial overhead associated with traditional server environments.
We also operate and support high‑performance computing resources that we encourage faculty and researchers to take advantage of. These include local systems here at UTRGV as well as free access to larger, advanced computing systems available through the TACC (Texas Advanced Computing Center) facility. These resources enable complex simulations, data‑intensive research, and computationally demanding projects across disciplines.
To learn more about what we offer, you can explore detailed information about the services and review examples of current and recently completed projects. These highlight the wide range of technical solutions and collaborative efforts that OFRS provides to support research and academic innovation.
OFRS remains committed to developing creative, effective, and forward‑thinking solutions to the technological challenges faced by our faculty and research community. Our goal is to empower your work, strengthen research capabilities across the university, and contribute to meaningful progress in the region and beyond.
