STEM Earth Day Fest promotes environmentalism and the sciences

The Brownsville community was treated to a day of science demonstrations, entertainment, a recycled art competition and a Trashionista Fashion Show, during the STEM Earth Day Fest on Saturday, April 22.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation, Healthy Communities of Brownsville, and Brownville Community Improvement Corporation hosted STEM Earth Day Fest 2017 at Linear Park.

STEM Earth Day Fest celebrates Earth Day, an annual event held on April 22 around the world, with events that demonstrate support for environmental protection.

The festival opened with a Green Power Car Parade that helped demonstrate the power of engineering. Throughout the day attendees saw marine science and robotics demonstrations and participated in hands-on activities with UTRGV’s HESTEC, Green Power USA Electric Cars and NASA Space Science.

In addition, the Brownsville Beautification Committee gave away native trees to those in attendance.
