UTRGV Homecoming 2020 - Honoring our legacy, building our future. February 10 to 15, 2020. 

Get ready for a week filled with fun, events, memories and so much more as we kick off Homecoming 2020 this February.

FEBRUARY 10

Tip Off Party

The Tip-off Party, hosted by Student Activities, Campus Activities Board, the Student Union and University Recreations, is a celebration to start Homecoming Week. 

Students can kick-off the week by participating in minute-to-win-it games, free food, giveaways and more! 

Homecoming is a celebration of all things UTRGV and showcasing the pride of being a Vaquero.

Wrapping of the Letters | 8:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.| EASFC

 Wrapping of the letters

Be a part of this annual tradition and participate in the wrapping of the letters. Students and staff wrap each of the letters to spell out U-T-R-G-V throughout the day and prepare them for the Fire Up event on Thursday, Feb. 13 after Battle of the Colleges. It's a day of team building, camaraderie and hard work but its well worth it.

Homecoming Golf Cart Parade | 6:00 p.m.| EUNTY (Unity Hall)

Students and departs are invited to participate in the parade. We will start at Unity Hall and lead up to the Fieldhouse. Glow in the dark is the theme, lets light the way to the game to support our Deans.

    Date/Time: February 13 at 7 p.m.

    WAC play is underway!

    Deans from different colleges across campus, along with students from their colleges, will compete in a halftime free throw shooting competition. The winner receives a trophy.

    There will also be a spirit competition among the colleges with a second trophy at stake.

    UTRGV Athletics would like to show its appreciation for all current UTRGV faculty and staff by offering free general admission and free popcorn with a UTRGV employee ID.

    Be apart of the Cane's Challenge! After every Thursday home victory, fans can take home a buy one, get one free Raising Cane's box combo coupon.

    After the game, fans can make their way to the east parking lot of the fieldhouse (Lot E16) to observe the annual burning of the letters, hosted by Student Activities.

    UTRGV students receive free admission to all home games and up to 50% off concessions, with a valid student ID.

    UTRGV Students, Staff and Alumni are invited to tailgate before the UTRGV Men’s Basketball game. Join the festivities to celebrate Homecoming 2020 with your fellow Vaqueros. The tailgate will include face painting, interactive lawn games, music and opportunity to BBQ.

    A BBQ competition will be going on for UTRGV students and staff that pre-registered. It’s a great opportunity to engage with your fellow Vaqueros and Alum.

  • Additional Information & FAQs

    Where will the Homecoming Tailgate be held? 

    The Homecoming Tailgate will be held in a section of Lot E16 directly in front of the University Fieldhouse (EHPE1). Parking will be available in other sections of Lot E16 and within close walking distance. 

    Who can compete in the tailgate? 

    Tailgate competition is open to all student organizations in good standing with the Leadership & Mentoring office, University departments, and alumni and friends of the university.

    Will there be tents or tables supplied for those who wish to tailgate before the game?

    Tents will NOT be provided for groups that are tailgating. If your group pre-registered, a table will be provided. All groups must arrange to bring their own materials and clean up after the tailgate is finished. 

    Will there be electrical outlets/power provided?

    No electricity will be provided to tailgaters. 

    What time is setup for tailgate competition? 

    Participants are encouraged to arrive and setup between 2:00 p.m.. - 4:00 p.m.. 

    For the safety of everyone and to minimize the parking of vehicles in the area, vehicles will not be allowed after 4:00 p.m. in the tailgate area. Tailgate will officially start at 5:00 p.m.. 

    Is alcohol permitted in the parking lots?

    There is no alcohol permitted in the lots during the tailgate. However, beer and wine will be available for purchase (cash only) within the Homecoming Beer Garden. Guests must be 21 or older to purchase and consume, and they will not be permitted to take their drinks outside of the designated area. 

    What are the university guidelines for grilling during the tailgate? 

    • Grilling must be done 50 feet from a building
    • Each participant with a grill MUST have a fire extinguisher within 10 feet at all times
    • NO deep fryers are permitted without proper authorization
    • If using charcoal, participants must wait until all briquettes are completely done then doused with water to ensure it will not re-ignite
    • No grilling can occur within 10 feet of any combustible
    • No grilling can occur under any building overhang

    Enjoy the tailgate party in the parking lot before the game for homecoming festivities and entertainment at 5 p.m.
