- Emily Quick Bear, MD

Dr. Emily Quick Bear completed her undergraduate training at Colorado State University where she completed her B.S in Biological sciences with minors in Spanish and Biomedical sciences. She graduated with her MD degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in 2019. As a member of the Rosebud Sioux tribe, she has always been interested in working with underserved populations and wishes to do so in the future as a general OBGYN. She is excited for the unique opportunity to work with the population on the border and exploring all that the Rio Grande Valley has to offer and teach her.
In her free time she enjoys running, yoga, and visiting local breweries for coasters to add to her collection.

Dr. Emily LaBerge completed her undergraduate training at The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned her B.S. in neurobiology. She went on to earn an MPH in Epidemiology from The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, TX. Most recently, she graduated with her MD from Texas Tech Health Science Center Paul L Foster School of Medicine in El Paso, TX. Dr. LaBerge was born and raised in Houston, TX and has lived all over the state, but had never been to the Rio Grande Valley before starting residency. She is looking forward to exploring the area, working with the valley community, and hopefully becoming fluent in Spanish. She is interested in practicing general OBGYN in an academic setting after residency. Aside from medicine, she enjoys listening to podcasts, traveling, and spending time with her two wiener dogs.

Dr. Susanne Mathew was born in Bangalore, India and moved to the United States when she was 7 years old. She completed her undergraduate education at UC Berkeley, where she earned a BA in Molecular and Cell Biology. She earned her medical degree at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. Her experiences living in three different countries and various regions of the US have instilled in her an appreciation for diversity and new experiences. She can’t wait to explore Texas, learn about the unique culture of the Valley, and improve her medical Spanish. She is thrilled to be a part of the UTRGV-DHR team and looks forward to caring for a border population burdened by health disparities. She is interested in an academic career with a focus on working with high-risk and underserved communities. When she’s not working, she enjoys reading, baking, hiking, and traveling.

- Renee Ridley, MD, PhD, MS

Dr. Ridley is originally from Kentucky, where she completed her BSN and MSN degrees in nursing at Murray State University. She worked as an RN in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery and Women’s Post-Surgical, then subsequently as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Dr. Ridley went on to teach nursing students in the clinical and classroom settings, becoming an Associate Professor after obtaining her PhD from Saint Louis University in Missouri. She then moved to Texas, where she taught both undergraduate and graduate level students at Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Texas A&M Health Science Center. After a 30-year nursing career, Dr. Ridley achieved her final academic goal of becoming a physician, graduating with an MD from Texas A&M University, College of Medicine. Her choice to become an OB/GYN stems from her passion for providing care to women and their newborns, which spanned the majority of her nursing career. Dr. Ridley plans to practice as a generalist and would like to explore opportunities as a Hospitalist / Laborist, focusing her efforts on Quality Improvement in the Labor & Delivery setting. She would like to combine this with an academic component in the future due to her love for teaching students. She enjoys keeping in touch with her adult children and grandchild, spending time with her husband and dachshunds, and visiting the beaches of Texas.
