Dr. Laura Garcia is a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine with a distinguished career in medical education, clinical care, and academic leadership. She earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), Regional Academic Health Center – Lower Rio Grande Valley, where she also served as Chief Resident.
Following residency, Dr. Garcia pursued fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine at UTHSCSA, including an advanced geriatric research fellowship year. Her clinical and academic interests have focused on improving care for older adults, enhancing diagnostic accuracy, and mentoring the next generation of physicians.
Dr. Garcia has served as Program Director of the UTRGV Internal Medicine Residency Program at Valley Baptist Medical Center since 2020, after previously holding roles as Associate Program Director both at UTRGV and UTHSCSA. She is also an Associate Professor in the UTRGV School of Medicine and has led numerous educational initiatives, research symposia, and faculty development programs.
Dr. Garcia remains actively involved in professional organizations and committee leadership, including roles with the Texas Medical Directors Association. Her commitment to excellence in education and patient care continues to shape the future of medicine in the Rio Grande Valley.
