Esmeralda (Esme) Lozano joined the UTRGV Office of Faculty Affairs as the Program Manager for Faculty Development in April 2024. Her immediate past work was as Program Manager for the former Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Health Equity and the Admissions Office at the UTRGV School of Medicine. She has worked for the UT System for twenty-three years as a former Director and Program Coordinator for high school and college outreach programs that engaged, guided, and mentored students into health careers pipelines and professions. This work positioned her to provide prospective college and professional school students from the Rio Grande Valley with much-needed financial aid guidance assistance in completing their financial aid, scholarship, and student lending application process.
As Faculty Development Program Manager for the Office of Faculty Affairs, Esme is responsible for advancing available resources such as CME-accredited professional development workshops, disseminating the annual Faculty Needs Assessment Survey, and reporting the findings to help determine faculty development offerings for each new calendar year. She also supports the UTRGV SOM Integrated Service Units’ (ISU) efforts in the recruitment, engagement, and retention of current and prospective community faculty physicians. As a part of her duties, Esme also provides support as necessary to the Office of Continuing Medical Education (CME) in coordinating CME events and in determining CME eligibility.
Esme holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, and a master’s degree in public affairs from UTRGV.
