Housing Rate Information

Housing at the UTRGV Residence Halls is available for UTRGV students, faculty, staff, and participants of University-sponsored programs. Individuals seeking housing accommodations at the University must sign a Reservation Agreement identifying either a 9-month fall/spring lease period or a 3-month summer lease period. Space in our residence halls is reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

Select holidays and breaks are not included in the agreement, as the residence halls officially close and meal plans are inactive. Residence halls are officially closed during Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Breaks. Students requesting to stay on campus during these breaks must fill out a Break Housing Agreement and will be charged for the duration of the break. Residents of The Village Apartments may remain on campus during these closing times.

Housing Deposit

A $150.00 housing deposit is required for students applying for the 1st time to UTRGV on campus housing. Housing Applications without the Housing Deposit will not be processed.

This is partially refundable and is used to replace any broken items or pay for excessive cleaning after your stay. Once a staff member has inspected your room/apartment, they will determine whether or not you will be charged. Deposits stay on file the entire time you live on campus and rollover from year to year. The refundable portion of the deposit will be returned after your last semester living on campus.

The refund may be forfeited for a number of reasons including, but not limited to: violation of check-out procedures; improper checkout; damage to facilities; or need for additional room/apartment cleaning.


Students are to complete payment of all room and meal fees according to the payment schedule they selected on their application under their account. Selection “Payment in full” requires the room and meal balance to be paid in full prior to moving in. The “Installment Plan” divides room and board costs into equal payments, with the first payment due prior to moving in. Installment Plan requests will incur a non-refundable $40.00 setup and handling fee per payment. The installment plan is not available for summer terms and full payment must be made before checking in.

Housing Dining Services

The University Cafeteria, part of the University Center Complex, is conveniently located southeast of the Residence Halls. All residents must purchase the minimum required meal plan per semester. An all-you-care-to-eat dining program is available in the Vaquero Dining Hall. This great food value is available to the entire campus community.
